COMPETITION INFORMATION

General

Competitions are a great way for club members to share their work and get ideas on how to improve their images.  Judges are encouraged to provide comments and suggestions for images submitted, providing an enhanced learning experience for the photographer.  Anyone is welcome to attend club meetings but only paid members may enter the competitions. 

There are three competitions held one night each month:

Print competition - Open Subject

Projected Image (slide or digital) competition – Open Subject

Projected Image (slide or digital) competitions - Assigned Subject. 

Members may choose to enter the Projected Image Open Subject competitions in one of three groups:

Class B – Beginners

Class A – Intermediate 

Salon - Advanced

The Projected Image Assigned Subject and the Print Competitions will combine members of all three classes.

Seven competitions are held each year with the year end final held in May. 

In addition, December is set aside for the Terry Boyer Award competition and Holiday Party.  Each member may enter up to 4 slides or digital images.

Scoring

The scoring system will be the same for prints and slides/digital.  Each image shall be given a rating from five to nine points.

Best of the 9s will be awarded Print/Projected Image of the Month. 

Remaining 9s and 8s are awarded Top Award.

All 7s will be reviewed again and approximately 20% will be awarded Honorable Mention.  

Entry Rules (revised 8/29/2007)

Color prints may be by the maker or trade processed.  Up to three (3) Color prints may be entered. All subjects will be accepted.

Up to three (3) slides or digital images may be entered in the Open category and up to three (3) in an Assigned category.

Any slide or print that has scored 7 (with an Honorable Mention), 8, or 9 points in previous competitions during the year may not be re-entered again in a scored competition. They may be used in the Terry Boyer Award and year end competition.

We encourage members to submit images taken within the last 3 years of the date of competition, and prints that have been printed within the previous 3 years.

All prints must be mounted on a flat stiffening medium. Framed pictures, or those with hangers on the back will not be accepted. All entries must bear the name of the photographer, title of entry, and have a 3" x 5" card properly filled out with the same information, that must be submitted with each entry.  Prints may be no larger than    16 X 20, including mounting board.

No tickets are required for digital image submissions.

Slides are to be 2" x 2", thumb spotted for proper projection as per example shown.

Year End Competition Awards

Slides and prints that have scored eight or nine points during the year or scored 7 and were awarded an Honorable Mention are eligible for the year end competition. There is no limit on the number of entries for the final competition.
